The possible first vasconic number appears in Irulegi

They find the inscription "Abaš" in a ceramic vessel, in the same house where the hand of Irulegi appeared. Researchers from Aranzadi believe that it may be the predecessor of the current number "ten".

The Aranzadi Science Society reports on its latest discovery in Irulegi. In a ceramic container, symbols have been found that can refer to a number. According to experts who have made an epigraphic and linguistic analysis of the text, it is possible that it refers to the number ten. They indicate that it may be a vasconic number.

The linguistic analysis has been carried out by Javier Velaza, Joan Ferrer and Joaquín Gorrotxategi, and if their interpretation were correct, it would be the first testimony of a vasconic number. They have given great importance to the discovery because they believe that it can provide clues to clarify the relationship between the Vasconian language and the Iberian language. It can also provide clues to clarify, not only between them, their relationship with the ancient Basque language and with the current Basque language.

In fact, recent studies have shown that the numbering systems of Basque and Iberian are similar, and precisely that of ten is one of the most significant examples: in Iberian, ten are said, etc. and in Basque.

The inscription appears in the grounds of the house where the Hand of Irulegi appeared. It's a piece of a ceramic glass and it's from Irulegi to Pompelo. The roots of a city" is exhibited in the exhibition itself. It can be seen in the Civivox Pompelo cultural center. A few weeks ago we announced the exhibition in Elhuyar Zientzia, where the piece was seen: "A journey in time from 'Irulegi to Pompelo'".

Aranzadi believes that the inscription of the number may be related to the capacity of the container, and a second piece has also been found. It is a piece of a ship painted with varnish from Italy and written “basi”. It may refer to the owner or house of the ship, the investigators believe.
