New technique for the study of brain activity

2001/10/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

As is known, when there is some activity in the brain some changes occur on the surface of the brain. The study of these changes is very useful, since they give idea of the functioning of the brain. Therefore, scientists at the University of Illinois have invented a new non-invasive tool for the diagnosis of superficial brain changes.

There are other techniques with the same objective, such as MRI and positron emission tomography. The basis of the latter, however, is near-infrared spectroscopy, which is easier to use and also cheaper than the rest.
