Photo of the week: special cell of the queen

Scientists have clarified that the growth of queen bees requires special microenvironments. They don’t grow well under any conditions. They require peanut-shaped cells and certain biochemical conditions.

They have identified the young worker bees that produce them, hitherto unknown to the researchers, and have clarified that they have a fundamental work in the hive, since when the queens have passed them to the normal cells they have not grown well.

The worker bees that build their cells are also younger and have different metabolic activity. The research shows that there is still much to be clarified if you want to have a good understanding of the architecture of hives and the microenvironments that are generated in them.
