Getting stronger and stronger

1998/12/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

Israel's Rehovot Research Center has measured the hardness of carbon nanotubes and has shown that they are 200 times stronger than any other fiber.

In addition, being such fine fifine fibers, there are hardly any defects in the diameter of the fibre, and their application in epoxy resins allows obtaining composites of great hardness. These fibers are obtained by aligning carbon molecules, called Buckminster Furellen-shaped, which will be used in the future for the manufacture of bulletproof vests.
