60,000 per year

More than 60,000 whales, dolphins and porpoises die each year entangled in the nets. The data have been published by the US Commission on Ocean Policy at the meeting held in late July. The calculations are based on data from the United States and have carried out extrapolation based on the number of fish caught worldwide.
