Lake Txad in danger of extinction

Formerly, the lake located in central Africa was one of the largest lakes on the continent. Now, however, the surface of Lake Chad is 20 times smaller than 40 years ago and one day there is danger of extinction. The main water sources of the lake are monsoon rains between June and August and the waters of the Chari River.

However, the climate change experienced in recent years has caused drought in the vicinity of the lake and a strong increase in the demand for irrigation in the surrounding lands. In parallel, Chari has decreased its water contribution by 75%. In the image you can see the evolution of the lake. The darkest area is currently occupied by Lake Chad. The clearest, however, is its extension, currently covered with vegetation.
