Absence of polio in Europe

The World Health Organization has announced that since 26 November 1998 there has been no case of polio in Europe. This victory is the result of the vaccination campaign launched in 1988, and its objective is that in this year 2000 the disease is permanently hidden from Europe.

In America since 1994 there has been no polio case, but the situation is different in Africa and Asia. There were 1,087 patients in Angola in 1999 and 831 in Nigeria. Asia India is the most affected country with 2,289 cases.
