2000/11/19 Kortabarria Olabarria, Beñardo - Elhuyar Zientzia

For the implementation of the project has held the first meetings with the city agents. The City Council of San Sebastian has held the first meetings with the agents working in the city to prepare the Strategic Plan. The City of Donostia wants to implement the strategic plan for 2002. The Plan is in the initial phase.

What can be done at DONOSTIA to enhance research and innovation? In response to this question, the City Council has already held its first meeting with some of the agents working in these areas in Donostia. This meeting was attended by the delegation of the Miramón Technological Park, the technological centers of Inasmet and Ceit, the Inbiomed center, the university, Javier Retegi of MCC and, of course, the City Council, with the assistance of the Mayor, assisted by technicians. This opinion exchange meeting is part of the strategic plan of the City Council.

In fact, among the projects that the City of Donostia has is the strategic plan for the coming years. The Plan, for the moment, is in the initial phase, that is, before starting to structure the Plan itself, the City Council is holding meetings with agents from different areas. Through these meetings, the City of Donostia-San Sebastián wants to gather opinions and obtain information about the feasibility of the strategic plan. This plan will cover different areas, including new technologies and cultural production, the city of knowledge. Several topics will be addressed in this area: Research and Innovation, Information and Communication, Multimedia Production, Modernization of Public Administration, Mobility, Quality and Excellence, and Responsibility for Language. Along with new technologies and cultural production, the City Council will analyze three others: San Sebastián and its territory, Sustainability from the point of view of Social Cohesion and Governance.

This first meeting with people working in the field of research and technology aimed to collect opinions, but also served to concretize something. For example, since then the municipal representatives know that the implementation of the Mondragón model in MCC will be difficult in San Sebastian and that the City itself has to intervene in research and innovation. In fact, at the meeting Javier Retegui presented the project that MCC is developing in Arrasate. "An interesting project, certainly, but difficult to develop in San Sebastian, because there is no MCC here," says the representative of Inasmet. On the other hand, the meeting stressed the need to make decisions to the City itself. On the one hand, with the aim of increasing the number of studies and the number of researchers on the Campus, and on the other, because it was indicated that it was interesting to promote health research, specifically in the field of bio-rials.

It is not yet clear how the Strategic Plan of the City of San Sebastian will be carried out when the period of these first meetings ends, but the actual elaboration of the Strategic Plan that is in force in 2002 will take place next year. The technicians of the City Council consider that, in addition to the City Council, the involvement of many other agents will be necessary for the plan to go ahead.
