When we cut on the skin, instead of reforming the network of collagen fibers that form the original structure, the body produces parallel collagen fibers that bind the two sides of the cut. These parallel structures that form faster than the net are those that form the scars, with less flexibility than the original bark and a whitish color. This response to wounds is a consequence of ancestral needs: if the wounded person did not form quickly, he had a higher risk of death, so the body gives an urgent response to the formation of wounds.
Researcher Ron Coffey has synthesized biodegradable material that could serve to heal wounds without leaving scars. The material is composed of ethanol and biodegradable polymeric fibers such as polylactic acid and is used as an aerosol. Polymer fibers are regularly distributed on the surface and cells that generate collagen on this basic structure can easily grow forming a structure very similar to that of the original skin.
Aeorosola has not yet been used in animals or humans, and although the inventor says it is useful, other researchers have not been so optimistic about the new product.
