Nobel Prizes 2026

As every year, with the beginning of October, the names of the Nobel Prize winners will be announced. The Physiology or Medicine Award will be announced on October 5, the Physics Award on October 6 and the Chemistry Award on October 7.

the Nobel Prizes began to be awarded in 1901, and this year marks its 125th anniversary. The awards aim to highlight individuals who have made a significant contribution to science, literature and peace and have maintained the highest international recognition for more than a century.

The history of the awards presents a significant gender gap. More than a thousand people have received a Nobel Prize, of which less than 7% are women. This gap in the Literature and Peace awards is more diffuse, but in the scientific disciplines the difference is still very noticeable.

In addition to the gender gap, one of the rules of the Nobel Foundations is that there can be a maximum of three laureates in each category. This rule is in contradiction with current research dynamics, in which many collaborative and multidisciplinary projects stand out.

Thus, between the traditions of the century and the challenges of the present, the Nobel Prizes will once again arouse praise and controversy.
