A newly excavated tunnel in Japan has a length of 53'9 km, the longest in the world. This tunnel connects the islands of Honsku and Hokkaido. The communication of these islands was done by sea.

To celebrate it, the night of the 11th to the 12th of last March, many people gathered at the two ends of the tunnel. The tunnel is located at 240 m of depth above sea level and at 100 m of depth on the seabed. Every night three trains will leave and every year it is expected to transport two million people.
