Special myosin

2000/01/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

Myosin is one of the proteins we have in our muscles. There are more than 15 types and they work by hydrolyzing the ATP molecule (universal energy source of living beings). Next to the hydrolyzed ATP molecule, its clays move from bottom to top, microscopic movements responsible for muscle movements. But American researchers discover a type of myosin that moves the tail from top to bottom.

The components of this myosin are united differently and therefore moves in the opposite direction. Researchers try to find the reason and usefulness of this particularity.
