Elhuyar Foundation puts on the net a free web service to take advantage of translation memories

The R&D&i unit of the Elhuyar Foundation has just launched the ItzulTerm web service, a free service that automatically extracts pairs of equivalent terms in Basque and Spanish from a translation memory. It is specially designed for users who work with translation memories: translators, translation services, terminologists, linguists, Basque technicians...

ItzulTerm is a free service that automatically extracts pairs of equivalent terms from the translation memory sent by the user. In addition, the user has the possibility to work the results of the extraction and obtain the desired pairs of terms for different uses: creating dictionaries, improving the system of translation memories, use in machine translation, etc. In addition, the service offers editing options to improve the result of automatic extraction and work the result. The ItzulTerm service is based on the ELexBI tool developed by the R&D&i unit of the Elhuyar Foundation. The ELexBI tool combines linguistic techniques and statistics in the process of automatic extraction of pairs of terms.

Main service steps

Through ItzulTerm, users can benefit from their translation memories in three steps: "Automatic extraction", "Manual processing" and "Export". ItzulTerm consists of the automatic extraction of pairs of terms using linguistic techniques and statistics. In the “Manual Processing”, ItzulTerm offers the possibility to work your proposals: advanced options for editing results to be validated or rejected. Finally, in “Export”, the user can download the pairs of terms he has considered valid to create a custom bilingual dictionary.

The ItzulTerm project has been subsidized by the Department of Culture of the Basque Government within the IKT 2007 call.
