Marine Scientific Buoys

2001/06/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has installed two buoys in the Pacific Ocean at the PAPA Maritime Station in British Columbia to study plankton and other living organisms and obtain carbon cycle information. The buoys used are called SOLO (Sounding Oceanographic Lagrangian Observer).

They have biosensors to measure carbon biomass and can also measure temperature, salinity and marine currents. In the first and last hours of the day, they descend to a thousand meters, collect data, emerge and send satellite data in depth.
