The World Health Organization (WHO) has published in its latest report that in 1996 the world total has died more than 52 million people. Of these, 17 million have been caused by infectious and parasitic diseases, more than 15 million by diseases of the circulatory system, more than 6 million by cancer and about 3 million by respiratory diseases. Tobacco has caused more than 7.5 million deaths.
