In Europe and in many villages around the world, Florida turtles (Trachemys scripta elegans) are heavily bought for people to have at home. Lately they have grown a lot and have been considered to cause no harm. But in practice something else happens. Many of these turtles are left in the river or lake when the owner gets bored and become predators of the aquatic fanuna breaking the balance of the ecosystem.
