Women in Science Manifesto

Actions to inspire the science of the future

The members of Women in Science presented their action plan on February 11, International Day of Women and Girls and Scientists. They say that the document represents a commitment to address inequalities from an intersectional and root perspective. They also affirm that, in order to consolidate a more equitable scientific and technological future, they will work actively to increase the visibility of women scientists, to promote the democratization of science and to build egalitarian and co-responsible work environments. Elhuyar has also joined the Women in Science action plan.

● We want to promote the full participation of women and underrepresented groups (class, gender, ethnicity, origin, disciplines) in science, betting on a more egalitarian science that represents and takes advantage of the whole society.

● We focus on promoting girls’ STEAM vocations and making underrepresented women scientists and collectives visible from an intersectional perspective. To do this, we work from early awareness to break stereotypes and promote free and ambitious professional choices.

● We want to bring science and scientific culture to society in an inclusive and egalitarian way, promoting its democratization. We disseminate scientific knowledge in an understandable and rigorous way, making visible the work and contribution of women scientists and encouraging the active participation of citizens in all their diversity.

● We embrace the STEAM model. We understand science in its broadest field and combine it with humanities and art, breaking down the walls between disciplines.

● We want to promote inclusive and sustainable professional careers. We work to promote inclusive professional careers, demanding healthy work environments and promoting sustainable rhythms of life, both in the professional and personal spheres.

● We are in favour of structural changes. We will promote the necessary discussions to define the roadmap for this, and we will implement real changes for equality and diversity in our institutions.

● We believe in an evaluation system that rewards your contribution above productivity. We are fighting for a scientific evaluation system that measures the real impact, which values both quality and cooperation.

● We move away from the instrumentalization of equality and banal symbolic participation. We defend a real and transformative commitment to the values of our network.

● We weave a collaborative and collaborative network. We promote internal and external collaboration and listening in our community, we understand the network as a safe and essential space to share experiences, foster collective leadership and generate structural changes.

This manifesto is an ethical commitment that we assume within the Women in Science alliance. We would like to invite organizations and institutions to work with us on these 9 actions to jointly build the science of the future.
