Throughout the tour new ideas have been gathered around the magazine that has reached number 100. The objectives set at the beginning of the tour, at least in its entirety, remain unmet. As if they were things stored in a drawer, memories and expectations have accumulated.

Renewing years

The magazine you have in your hands has nothing to do with the first issue that was published in 1974. Although not to be said, the reader has rained a lot since, following the creative intentions, he began to publish that scientific manifestation in Basque. However, Basque remains a need for a clear scientific presence. Scientific and technological disclosure among us is still not entirely normal. Also, “Elhuyar. The magazine “Zientzia eta Teknika” is not yet a standardized publication. Everything had to be said.

We walked, like an ingenious child who dares to take new steps, hoping that we would approach the goal, we decided to break the shell of science. We learned the subject of Muhammad and the mountain a long time ago, and without waiting, we arrived at people who could be interested in science. In response to this intention, we began to fill with laughter, newspapers and spaces. Soon after it became a custom: the periodic apparitions became fixed in the grills of the radios and the signatures of the elhuyar became habitual in the Basque press.

However, these were just loose steps. ZETIAZ was created for this purpose. The new project was born that day when we met to write in the new role those intentions of yesteryear. Recalling what had been done so far, it was concluded that the presence of science in the Basque media was quite deficient and that the search for a solution to this situation was an important and necessary requirement. Since then it has continued with the work carried out to date, offering an advisory service, making periodic collaborations and trying to give answers to any type of information that can be understood by anyone. To say that we have always succeeded is a little more, nobody knows better than you, reader.

With the same intention, the award we organized for the first time last year to promote the dissemination of science and technology. The company CAF Beasain has agreed with us providing the necessary support to advance these awards, in order to publicize the work of the new writers. Now we need you, readers and writers to keep walking.

The crazy daily practice of these times that we live in the world of industry hardly allows to appreciate with due tranquility the enormous importance that it has for any company to perceive all the realities of the place in which it moves.

Being the increasingly international markets, business activity is also becoming global, which forces us to relate to keys that until now were not common in the different areas of industrial activity.

This gives us more strength and we are convinced of the importance of “touching” our social reality, that of our men and women.

We are in the Basque Country and support for the normalization of the Basque Country is a policy that we are committed to our company.

In this context, when we decided to collaborate with Elhuyar in the first contest of scientific and technological dissemination in Basque, we do not take any measure at the moment. On the contrary, we, at least, believe it, take another step in our policy of normalization of Basque.

However, we were not fully aware of the importance of what was going on.

Those who have the opportunity to read the magazine will surely agree with us on the importance of this initiative.

The fact that we have some participation in this project, which has reached number 100, encourages us to continue on that path.

In the last ten years we have become a Basque scientific journal. Congratulations and thank you! In the next decade, the new Basque society we are building will require excellent scientific publications and similar progressive expressions. This year we celebrated the first centenary of the birth of the Carmelite Father Gabriel Jauregi Uribarren. I would like to recall that the Aramaian vascophile wrote the first works on astronomy in the magazine “Karmengo Argia” between 1931 and 1934. We have a fortunate coincidence, that centenary and “Elhuyar. Tenth anniversary of the magazine “Science and Technology”. In these times when science advances so fast, those who have a profession or hobby to astronomy or any other field of science or technology, we needed a magazine like the one in your hands, which would be dedicated especially to the dissemination of these topics. For ten years, “Elhuyar. “Science and Technology” is filling this gap at the level of journals published in other languages. I remember as yesterday that day when the friends of Elhuyar realized their intention: their desire to make a journal of scientific dissemination in Basque for a wide audience. Eight years have passed since then and, at first, that dream, which seemed simply the desire of some crazy, has become something totally normal, every month, in a chincho-txintxo. Today we are quite normal to read articles in Basque on astronomy, sport, health and almost everything, and the blame for that “normalization”, more merit I think “Elhuyar. It is largely the magazine “Zientzia eta Teknika”, during these years of enjoyment, without much noise, but in a constant and monthly work, for the possibility that has offered us several people to write on their pages. Number 100. Decade. I no longer dare to name those who write about nature, it would be too much to mention here and forget many. The work of the EU, UZEI, Eusenor now... On the way from the hamlet to the street the Basque language lost a huge wealth; the names of animals and plants, many words, remained on the road and the hole left by those questions requires a lot of work. But in that we are. Still many Basques know that if we hear “heron” or “héron” in French or Spanish, we mean at least one bird, and that some slender bird will be a ditch. However, hearing “heron”, “amiamoko”, “amiltxori” or similar, there are still too many stones that surprise without warning of what spell we speak. But come on. The road is still long, but we go. Elhuyar, 100 copies

To begin with, I learned about the Elhuyar brothers after the group that Elhuyar created. I was still a student in the Donostia area and I have maintained a good relationship with the creative team.

If I'm not mistaken, the first magazine was published in 1974. The team must also have been born at that time. The first was not so much, but I was increasingly incomprehensible about the issues that the magazine then published. It was a work that had to be done, since it had to also deal with scientific issues in Basque, but they could not be understood by anyone. From the beginning I got the magazine to help me and I did it for several years.

10 years ago, however, "Elhuyar. The magazine "Zientzia eta Teknika" began a new career and since then I have closely followed his career. It has given me the opportunity to know first-hand some scientific and technical news, as well as the Basque language. It has been worked in different areas, it is not always easy to read all, but the way in which the contents and contents used by the present have no initial difficulty, it is a great variety of content and if you have a little interest are expressed in an easy way to understand.

I have always read the short news section very carefully; I have also followed with desire the work on ecology, climate and nature, pulling the hobbies of each one. As for the presentation, the improvements have been remarkable throughout these 10 years, both in design and color.

The vision I have given so far, more than a radio station, depends on my interest and I don't know if that interested anyone. In my radio station facet, from the beginning I have been very happy on the radio through many local themes and those who have worked. I believe that science and technology can also be brought closer to the general public and must be approached, and in this it is a very valuable help offered by Elhuyar magazine and its work team. Elhuyar's is a great effort to spread from the corner of the wise sciences to the general public and would deserve more recognition and recognition of what it has.

The fame that this number 100 can give you will be the one that put in the place that this magazine needed and I wonder if the Basques will stop being ignorant in many subjects. Although we talk a lot about time, many still find it incomprehensible how clouds form and how it rains.

Happiness number one hundred

We are in the hundred year. The PNV is one hundred years old and the cinema has done the same. The magazine Elhuyar, which has diligently and informatively made known this news about science and technology, has also requested access to hundreds of copies in the club and has considered that it has a hundred at the door of the club.

The magazine you have in your hands is one of the deans of the club. A mythical number that represents experience as maturity, and that, by imposing the limit of birthday, broadens the great perspectives (at least in two senses of the word).

The magazine Elhuyar has offered us a testimony of the world advances in these hundred numbers, has conquered the world and has launched us into the world.

Like the world itself, the magazine is at the door of an exciting future: it will have to follow closely the competition between paper and two and prepare with the rigor with which it has worked so far to give the best possible service to the Basque scientist in the new times.

Opening new paths

Elhuyar has edited the number one hundred for the Euskaltzales. Congratulations, therefore, to all those who have collaborated in the development of the magazine, both the employees and the readers of it.

Elhuyar magazine has been launched over the years. As the reader knows, Basque has not had access to many social spheres throughout its history. Given the lack of university in Basque, the influence of Castilian in cities and industrial centres, or for other reasons, the Basques have almost always had to speak Castilian on science and technical issues. Hence Elhuyar has been the abrasive.

The abrasive does, but will Elhuyar's bet be out of place or time? Does Basque not have to respond to more urgent needs? These or similar questions can ask themselves.

It is true that the Basque language has to overcome day by day before anything, ensuring intergenerational continuity and consolidating the usual areas. It is necessary to strengthen the presence of Basque at home, in the neighborhood, in friends and in other areas of everyday life. But it is also true that what has been done in those places and habitual spaces requires another type of continuity in which until now only Castilian has monopolized. The world of work and university are the clearest examples.

The Basques have the right to be whole Basques. And for this it is essential to begin to complete the Basque language. That is our commitment to the future and that offered by Elhuyar magazine: on the one hand, it is a reference and a useful tool to reinforce and complement what is done in the usual areas and, on the other, to work the future with current needs.
