We all know that for correct astronomical observation, clear time and total darkness are indispensable. Well, Fred L, near Tucson, Arizona. When the Whipple Observatory knew they were going to build a new urbanization in the south of this city, they began to prepare the opposition.

In fact, it was decided to build the new urbanization near Mount Hopkins, where the observatory is located, which would significantly increase light pollution, making it difficult or preventing astronomical observations.

In this struggle they have had the help of railway interests, farmers of the area and mines. It has been a curious collaboration with ecologists.
