MIT researchers have made a sensor of presence of toxic substances from a cell. This cell is located on the wall that separates two fluids and, if alive, the cell membrane prevents the passage of electricity from one side to the other. However, if there is any type of toxic substance, the membrane deteriorates, so the cell lets electricity pass through.
