Bulb 7 years

1994/11/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

General Electric offers this new type of induction light bulbs. It lasts seven years and installs like any other. In the last ten years compact fluorescent lamps and sodium vapor have been invented to reduce lighting consumption, but this induction is manufactured by very few. This lamp is a masterpiece with electronic miniaturization.

The operating base is that the high-frequency magnetic field induces the electric current into the gas in the bulb. As a reaction, the gas elevates ultraviolet rays that become visible light when they cross the inner fluorescent layer. In this way the two major obstacles presented by incandescent lamps are avoided: on the one hand, the absence of filaments inside the bulb (with which the duration of the lamp is much longer) and on the other, the emission of infrared rays is very reduced. The consumption of incandescent ampas is usually high due to the emission of many infrared rays, which become heat, and the scarcity of visual rays. They are good for heating the air, but not for clarification. In short, induction gas excitation is an excellent solution.

This principle has long been known, but to achieve a high frequency induction the electrical circuit must be suitable and the electronic components are not within reach of anyone.

The main error of this new lamp is its price. 1,800 sts. It is worth 72 pounds, but if we compare it with incandescent ones, with the savings in consumption it is amortized.
