One in five Germans does not believe that man comes from the monkeys. The proportion between Catholics and older than forty-five years increases.
Last March, the Allensbach Institute of Opinion Studies interviewed 1,112 Germans. When asked if human beings and monkeys believed they had the same ancestors, the answer was: 21% refused, 62% did and 17% did not know.
The proportion of those who did not believe it was 27% among Catholics and 17% among Protestants. Age also affects the attitude. 29% of those over 45 did not believe it.
However, the situation improves. When the same question was raised in 1970, 40% rejected that humans and monkeys shared the same ancestor.
