A Dutch research centre has developed a system to reduce the noise pollution of the train. The placement of barriers of 60 cm next to the railway is sufficient to reduce 6-8 decibels the noise of the train.

Barriers must be made of noise absorbing material, i.e. plastic or wood. Train noise is one of the most common complaints that most rail companies receive from the public.
