Three Mile Island

In 1999 the second reactor of the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant suffered a serious accident. The owner of this plant, the American company GPV Nuclear Corporation, has made the decision to bury the reactor.

By 1989 99% of the fuel in the reactor area will be extracted and the cleaning and decontamination program will end. Areas that will not be missed are considered too dangerous to work cleaning equipment. Therefore, the reactor space will be buried for thirty years. By then it is estimated that the radiation emitted by Sio-137 will decrease in half.

By 2.030 the area will be induced and after chemically treated the remains of radio-tibidad will be cleaned.
