Sequencing of the soybean genome
01/01/2009 | Elhuyar

JGI (Energy's Joint Genome Institute) has sequenced the soybean genome. Sequencing the genomes of agricultural plants is often an arduous task, as hybridizations cause many parts of the genome to be duplicated. Thus, the soybean genome (Glycine max) has taken three years and a lot of money to solve, but it was important, since soy is not only used in human and animal feed, but raw material for the production of biodiesel. With the information they have obtained now they hope to create better varieties.
