Influence of computers on the environment

2004/04/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

According to a United Nations study, the chemicals and fossil fuels used in the manufacture of a common computer weigh ten times more than the computer itself.

Most of these chemicals are toxic and the use of fossil fuels directly impacts the environment.

On the other hand, the short duration of them makes many computers and parts of the computer accumulate in landfills. Even when recycled, appropriate security measures are often not adopted. In view of the strength acquired by the use of computers, United Nations researchers believe that action must be taken in this field, in the long term they can have serious consequences.
