Biological computers

1999/08/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

The computer with creatures' neurons is already underway. At the moment, the Sangulator only performs mathematical sums, but the goal is to create generations of fast and flexible computers, capable of thinking and solving problems rather than worrying.

"Conventional computers need absolutely accurate information every time they have to respond correctly. We hope that the biological computer will respond correctly from partial information by filling only the information gaps."

Conventional silicone computers do nothing but the connections prescribed by the programmers, but the new device "is able to think for itself", since the neurons of the sheets are able to interconnect with each other. Research is being conducted at the Georgia Institute of Technology under the direction of Professor Bill Ditto.
