Not all merit is wine

A study in Denmark reveals that wine drinkers buy healthier foods than beer and spirits.
Numerous research has been done to verify the beneficial effect of wine and especially red wine on health. Statistical studies show that regular consumers of wine are less at risk for heart attacks and certain cancers than those consumed by other alcoholic beverages. On the other hand, it has been shown that wine contains substances that have a protective effect against these diseases, such as polyphenols.
However, according to the Danish study, the food eaten by diners can have a lot to do with it. In fact, 3.5 million products purchased by people were analyzed and it was found that wine buyers bought more olives, fruits and vegetables, chicken, oil, low-fat cheese, milk and meat than those who bought beer. Instead, brewers bought more food, sausage, sugar, pork, butter or margarine, lamb and refreshing drinks than others.
