1999/12/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

According to the study conducted by the doctor and his team Joaquín Duran of the Txagorritxu Hospital in Vitoria-Gasteiz, more than 26% of Europeans abandon breathing 5 times an hour while sleeping. The data is the result of four years of research. During this period, 1,050 men and 1,098 women were analyzed, with 26.2% of men and 28% of women who stop breathing at least five times an hour. According to Duran, the results obtained could be extended to the rest of Europe. The data are worrying, as these breaths are limited to normal.

Respiratory interruptions are usually caused by obstruction of the throat tissues and have a minimum duration of 10 seconds. Patients often have trouble staying awake during the day by inhalation and the risk of traffic accidents is six times higher. To solve the problem, doctors recommend that the patient sleep in a costume that helps him breathe. The costume presses on the nose and the air that constantly passes prevents the obstruction of the throat.
