Smart windows have been developed in Donostia's CI? technology centre. These windows, thanks to the electrochromic materials, regulate the amount of light.
Depending on the electrical potential applied to it, the glass is lightened or darkened. To this glass is added a solar control membrane whose main characteristic is the control of the energy of the infrared rays, always maintaining a strong transmission of light. Among the advantages of this technology are the reduction of energy consumption due to the lower heating or cooling of the premises. A company from Barcelona will launch its first smart windows this year.
