Kukua Tricks

2001/05/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

We are already well into the spring and we have heard the quota song for the first time. We know that the cuckoo lays its eggs in the nest of other birds. It usually lays eggs similar to those of the guest to prevent the guest from running on account. But, often, eggs that don't look like our flavors also triumph. How is that?

It seems that the cuckoos use ultraviolet light. Birds are able to see ultraviolet light, so they see colors unlike us. Therefore, although it seems very different to us, the eggs of the cuckoo and the host bird are similar if observed with ultraviolet light.
