Ultra High Quality Copper Cobalt Nanorods for Solar Towers

Researchers from the Thermophysical Properties of Materials group at the UPV/EHU have shown that ultrafine copper cobaltate nano-needles have excellent thermal and optical properties and are highly suitable for energy absorption. This will pave the way for concentrated solar energy.

In such installations, several mirrors direct the energy of the solar rays to an absorbing tower. The heat of the sun that is absorbed in the towers is stored as thermal energy, and then it is easy for this thermal energy to enter the power grid. The materials currently used in solar towers, black silicones, absorb 95% of the light. That’s a lot, but several research groups around the world are researching for even better results.
