Chemotherapy, carcinogenic
2002/04/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria
Cystic fibrosis cell chromosomes have been investigated at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Compared to healthy cell chromosomes, differences occur in specific areas called ‘weak places’. It is in these places that DNA replication errors occur, and therefore incorrect reorganizations that are representative of cancer cells occur.
Some chemotherapy drugs threaten the appearance of ‘weak places’ in healthy cells. Therefore, while drugs face cancer, a situation of other cancers is occurring.
The research has questioned the suitability of certain drugs used in chemotherapy, while the need for more effective and less harmful drugs has been highlighted.
