Darwinilus sedaris. Ed. Natural History Museum of London/CC-BY 4.0

Charles Darwin was born 205 years ago. In their honor, today they have baptized a beetle with their surname. Specifically, the genus of the beetle will bear the name of Darwin, since the surname of the writer David Sedaris has been chosen as a species. Thus, the beetle will have its name and surname Darwinilus sedaris.

It should be noted that only two individuals of this species are known, both collected before 1935. One of them was taken by Darwin himself when he arrived at Bahía Blanca with the Beagle. It was subsequently lost and discovered in 2008 at the Natural History Museum in London.

The description of the species has been made by an entomologist at the University of Tennessee and has been published in the journal 106Keys.
