Marine Mammal Identification Software

2005/01/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

The University of Texas, in the US, has developed software to identify marine mammals. The software takes into account the shape of the blades and tail.

This software prevents the labeling of animals, facilitating and expanding the number of populations of whales, dolphins or sea lions.

Similar techniques have previously been used to identify marine mammals, but they had trouble comparing photographs taken from different angles to those in the database. The mathematical model used by this new software allows you to flip the image. And so, select the most similar images from the database. The last option is done by the eye of the expert.
