The DVD Blue ray has been created competitor

In February, nine major global companies signed an agreement to develop a blue ray disc or a Blue ray DVD. The Blue ray DVD will have much more memory than the current ones, but it was not the main novelty for users, but thanks to the agreement of the companies, in the future DVD recording and reading systems would be compatible. Toshiba and other major manufacturers, however, did not sign the agreement and have recently submitted a DVD incompatible with the Blue ray system.

The companies Toshiba and NEC have presented the Blue ray competitor. In the presentation they pointed out that their system will facilitate access to next generation DVD readers and recorders, as DVD manufacturers will be able to use the same equipment and systems as previously with new DVDs. But consumer associations are not so happy, because the only standard for the buyer is much more useful.

Currently there are four DVD recording systems and it is considered that the lack of compatibility has considerably hindered its marketing.

Blue base light

Both Blue ray and all newly presented work with blue light. Until now, DVDs used red light to store and read data. But blue light has a wavelength lower than red, meaning it allows more information to be stored in one place. Instead of storing 4.7-8.5 gigabytes on the usual 12 cm disks, 15-30 can be stored. In other words, 12 hours of video recording.

The DVD presented by Toshiba and NEC has a
memory capacity of 30 gigabytes and the Blue ray 40-50. Both want to be marketed in 2004, after receiving the approval from DVD Forum.
