American motorist General Motors has just tested the Impact electric car. They don't think they are very successful, but they expect it to be a step to improve the environment. In April the first electric cars of the Inpact model have been launched and a thousand are expected to leave. Cars will not be sold but will be lent.

The biggest problem the electric car currently has is that of batteries, and General Motors may want to pressure California authorities with this test if it fails to succeed. In fact, in this State it has been legally established that 2% of vehicles that come to light in 1997 will be those that do not cause pollution, and that in case the electric car fails, the law will be amended.
