Youth show 23 projects in Tolosa at the “Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka | STEAM Gipuzkoa” show

The program ‘Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka’ (STEAM Gipuzkoa) was first launched on Saturday, May 6. In the Plaza de la Alhóndiga de Tolosa, the young people from Guipuzkoan schools have had the opportunity to present the projects carried out during the course. The market opens at 10:30 in the morning with cutting tape. Young people have cut the tape and have been accompanied by representatives of the organising, sponsoring and collaborative institutions of the market: Ander Aizpuru Susperregui, Director of the Kutxa Foundation; Garazi Andonegi Beristain, Head of the Elhuyar Science Department; Jokin Bildarratz Sorron, Education Advisor to the Basque Government; Olatz Peon Ormazabal, Mayor of Tozourua; e Salua The opening ceremony was completed with a tour of the fair of all representatives.

Throughout the morning, in Plaza Alondegia de Tolosa, young people between 12 and 18 years old have shown 23 projects carried out during the course. In total, there were 100 young people, 65 of whom were girls (65%) and 35 boys (35%). The young people come from 10 Gipuzkoan schools: IES Aralar de Alegia, IES Erniobea de Amasa-Villabona, IES La Salle de Beasain, IES Talaia de Hondarribia, IES Lasarte-Oria Oriarte and Herrikide Tolosa College, IES Orixe, CITIAM de Tolosaldea In collaboration with schools, the company Algaloop de Asteasu has showcased samples of its research and innovation at the fair.

The exhibition ‘Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka’ is organized by Elhuyar and the Kutxa Foundation, with the sponsorship of the Department of Education of the Basque Government and the collaboration of the Municipality of Tolosa and Tolosaldea Garatzen. This fair, which is held for the first time this year in Gipuzkoa, is an exhibition of projects developed by young people that allow young people to live inside scientific research and technological development, and in which young people from ESO, Bachillerato and Vocational Training of Gipuzkoa participate. The main goal of the fair is to bring science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) closer to citizenship, developing among young people both STEAM and transversal skills (communication, creativity, innovation, teamwork, etc.). and offering young people scientific experiences.

The fair held in Tolosa is the colophon of the work carried out during the course. During the school year in Gipuzkoa, 18 schools and 357 young people participated, including 171 girls (48 per cent) and 186 boys (52 per cent). It is also noteworthy that in this way they participate as research mentors of the Basque Country to bring young people closer and inspire the real world of science and technology.
