Intergalactic gas feeds the Milky Way

Based on the information provided by the Hubble Space Telescope, two researchers at Notre Dame University have proposed that the Milky Way be supplied with intergalactic gas. Thus, although every year the solar mass of 0.6-1.45 of the gas present in the galaxy is destined to form stars, the Milky Way is not running out of gas.

Researchers believe that the remnants of gases left at the birth of the Local Group group of more than 30 galaxies, including the Milky Way, are feeding the Milky Way of gases. As they have explained, the gravity of the Milky Way attracts gas within the galaxy. The annual entry of new gases has also been calculated: Material corresponding to the solar mass 0,8-1,4.
