New tailored ligaments of the patient

The rupture of the crossed ligaments of the knee is a common practice, especially in athletes, but in most cases it does not usually have a good solution. Now, researchers at the University of Tufts have presented the new method of knee formation.

From stem cells obtained from the bone marrow of the patient, they obtain the tissue to form the mooring. To do this, the cells reproduce in some bioreactors on collagen or other biodegradable support.

Then, the tissue is subjected to mechanical stimulation to develop its ability to perform its role in the joint. It is finally inserted into the knee of the patient. The result is really good, since instead of months, a few weeks are enough to heal.
