Photon position

Of course, lasers are very precise devices to emit light, at least if compared to the electric lamp. However, it is not possible to control the flow of photons emitted with these devices. You cannot know exactly the position of photons compared to others.

However, in California, the team of researchers led by Jeff Kimble has managed to “tighten” photons, that is, they have been forced to travel in pairs. To do this they have built the following light generator: the high energy blue photon coming out of the laser enters a crystal and when cutting it transforms into two red photons.

This mechanism allows the atoms to be bombarded simultaneously by two photons. When an electron is like that, the two photons rise to a higher energy level.

On the other hand, this technique could differentiate light frequencies with the accuracy of one third, that is, the difference between green and yellow (5.5). Ten billion times more accuracy than 1013 Hz).
