Europeans on the Moon

1997/05/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

The European Space Agency (ESA) can send a probe to the Moon in 2000. Europe has programs to conquer the Moon for some time, but none of them has been implemented due to lack of funding. However, because the American probe Clementine has detected the presence of water at the bottom of the weather craters in the south pole of the Moon, since last December trips to the Moon are increasingly concerned.

Moon ice has attracted the attention of NASA and ESA.

Although NASA has revived the Moon base assembly project, the European agency ESA can move forward. According to Marcello Coradini, a small mission would allow as soon as possible to launch the Moon and study the possible ice. If the ministerial meeting estimates it, the project would be implemented in 2000.

The journey from Earth to the Moon can be made outside the scientific program and with small financial resources, since there is not so long way. After studies by Americans and Soviets on the Moon in the 1970s, Europeans would be the first to illuminate.
