Turtles in danger

2000/08/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

Researchers from the Drexel University of Philadelphia have declared that the Pacific turtle flats are about to expire. The nidifying turtles that nest on Costa Rica's Playa Grande have continued for ten years using sensors installed in turtles. In 10 years, between 1988 and 1998, turtles arriving at the beach have been reduced from 1,367 to 117 and have announced that there are only 50 left for 2004. The researchers believe that it is necessary to change the fishing techniques so that the turtles do not mix in the nets.
