2002/12/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

In the early stages of the heart, immune reactions are influenced. The so-called e-selectin helps retain immune cells to the walls of blood vessels. This causes inflammation in the blood vessels and can cause a heart attack.

A group of American scientists propose a vaccine to prevent blood vessel inflammation. The experiment consisted of the application of E-selectin proteins to rats at risk of having a low concentration heart attack. Scientists have found that the immune system gets used to protein.

If used, E-selectin will not influence the immune system, so there will be no inflammation of the blood vessels.

Scientists have found that the vaccine is effective, since in the rats used in the experiment the number of heart attacks has been considerably reduced.
