Bergara, Historical Place of Science

2018/10/10 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

The appointment recognizes the scientific and historical importance of the Seminary of Bergara (in the photo) and laboratorium.

Bergara has been declared a Historical Place of Science by the European Association of Physics. In fact, the brothers Juan José and Fausto Elhuyar discovered in the Seminary of Bergara the wolframio, material that has subsequently become strategic in the advancement of modern science and technology. It is used in bulbs, electronics, etc.

The European Association of Physics usually designates the Historical Place of Science as key places for the development of physics. For example, the Instituto Curie (France) and the Sincrociclotrón del CERN (Switzerland) have received the award. In the case of Bergara, the recognition of the scientific and historical importance of the Laboratorium and the Bergara Seminary in the discovery of wolframio is due to the request made two years ago by the Donostia International Physics Center.
