More than a fair

On 10 September the “I Biological Agriculture” was held in Zerain. Fair”. The Biolur Association and the village of Zerain organized a pleasant working day in collaboration. One of you may have the following question: Another more fair? Of course! The aim of this event was to make known the beginnings of agriculture and biological livestock. Therefore, first of all, it should be explained what biological agriculture is and what it consists of.
In the purchase of food we use two main criteria according to the buying habits of sale: appearance and price. This has led, among other economic interests, to the development of special agriculture and the consequent predominance: comential or chemical agriculture. Farmers use chemical fertilizers to meet their goals, get a large plant, but grow weakly and to protect themselves from their weakness use fungi, bugs or mortuary herbs. It is also true that in the short term it produces more and has better appearance, but on the way it produces losses more difficult to measure.
For example, land is burned, food quality is reduced, and toxic substances are spread. In addition, it dissipates energy and causes the extinction of many local species and races to benefit the fortunate hybrids. Undoubtedly, this chemical agriculture has been born following the patterns of our consumer society, is eating human and terrestrial health and in return only offers appearance and quantity.
Faced with this, throughout Europe since the beginning of this century, associations in favor of real agriculture are being strengthened. This type of agriculture has spread mainly in the last 10 years: biological or ecological agriculture. Respecting the fertility of the land and the balance of nature, its goal is to offer healthy foods expressed in prose.
With the aim of giving a boost to all this, we have also joined the countries of the Basque Country and created the BIOLUR Association in Gipuzkoa. In this association, together with the baserritarras, the technicians and the consumers, we try to work and spread the alternative to the food agriculture. We offer all baserritarras the opportunity and information they need to consumers.
We believe that the future depends on all of us, on each of us, and BIOLUR is a working tool on this path, supported by the courses of conferences that we organize in the Zabalegi school and the dissemination of the magazine.
Those who are interested in this collaboration will not find it difficult to find us. At the Rural School Zabalegi or at the headquarters of the magazine BIOLUR, we contact you to inform you about biological and ecological agriculture, as well as to gather your collaboration.
