A statement to strengthen gender equality in education, research and innovation

Eleven European research centres and scientific organisations have signed a declaration to make higher education, research and innovation more gender-inclusive.

These centres are one of the most important in Europe, including the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), the French Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the Rovira i Virgili University of Catalonia. The others are from Ireland (five) and Poland and Sweden, and one at European level (Instruct-ERIC). All of them are awarded the EU Award for Gender Equality Champions, which recognises their commitment to gender equality.

The signatory organisations have stated that their aim is to strengthen gender equality in organisations, ensure the continuity of inclusive policies in Europe and promote these policies in collaborative actions.

They stress that it is “essential” to attract more women to academic studies and to guarantee the highest quality standards in research, so that science can face social and economic challenges. “To achieve this, it is essential to continue integrating gender equality into European and international cooperation”, they affirm.
