Life in pictures
A flock of tadpoles swam under the frogs, fleeing from the predators in the background, trying to reach the surface waters to feed them there.
Canadian photographer Shane Gross spent hours underwater at Cedar Lake, Vancouver, between the frogs, avoiding the mud from the bottom, which would greatly reduce visibility.
This is how he got this beautiful photo, and with it he has won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2024 photography contest. The jury highlighted the “light and energy, and the excellent reception of the connection between the handkerchiefs and the environment” of this photograph. In addition, they stress that the photo reveals that “species that are often overlooked could also be as spectacular as others.”
