Thesis in three minutes
ALFONSO CARLOS; Public University of Navarra:the initiative is called “The Three-Minute Thesis Competition” and the original idea was developed in some Australian universities around 2008, so it was recently launched. The idea is that those who are doing the thesis or have already presented it, present it to the public in three minutes, in an understandable way. We thought it was a nice initiative to bring it to the Public University of Navarra and the truth is that we have been satisfied with this event and we hope to continue it in the future.
Three modalities: Final Project, Master’s Thesis and Final Project
41 participants
ALFONSO CARLOS; Public University of Navarra: Approximately one out of two theses has been presented, which is perfectly fine. But success is not only about participation, but also about the enthusiasm that the participants have put in, and the level that they have shown. We are amazed at the high level we have had.
The winning thesis is: “Antioxidants: from grape seed to daily diet”
GABRIEL DAVIDOV; winner Thesis in three minutes: There have been two major challenges. One, to summarize, to explain in three minutes the main keys of four years of work. And, two, to bring them to a language that can be understood even by people who are not dressed in the subject, which was also part of the contest, and transmit the work and usefulness done.
In my thesis I basically investigated the sensitivity of grape seed antioxidants to heat and microencapsulation to include them in everyday diet products. I especially chose cookies because most of us eat them every day. They may conclude that microencapsulation is a suitable technique for incorporating the antioxidant benefits of grape seeds into the daily diet.
ALFONSO CARLOS; Public University of Navarra: One objective was to promote the desire to disseminate science among young researchers, which we consider to be one of their duties; and another was to disseminate the work of the University. Both objectives have been achieved precisely thanks to the attitude of the researchers; young people seem to be more motivated in our time than when we did the thesis. The event was open and anyone could attend.
