Closer to turning on the protein bulbs

Although the advantages of LEDs are many, they require filters made with rare earths to function. These researchers at CICbiomaGUNE want to create sustainable filters made of artificial proteins. To do this, they modify the DNA of the bacteria so that they can use their machinery to produce certain proteins. The challenge: that fluorescent proteins that function in liquid media are persistent in solid contexts.
